Get advice about support about dementia at one of our upcoming Q&A sessions

Dementia

A team of dementia experts from our Trust are once again inviting local people to get their questions about dementia answered at a series of Q&A sessions this April.

The informal Q&A sessions, which are open to everyone with an interest in dementia, those who have been recently diagnosed with the condition and their families and/or carers, are being held on:

  • Thursday 16 April: 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Midway Day Hospital, Ilkeston Resource Centre, Ilkeston, Derbyshire DE7 8LN
  • Thursday 16 April: 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Oakland Village, Hall Farm Road, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE11 8LH.

Dr Jenny Hartman, Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, said: “I would encourage anyone who has questions about dementia to attend one of these sessions to get the answers and support they need. Everyone attending will have the opportunity to speak freely with a varied group of health professionals - doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists and others – all of whom have a wealth of knowledge about dementia care and will be able to offer advice on issues raised.

“With around 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia, and this figure expected to rise over the coming years, I feel that it is important to host these informal sessions to equip the local community with the information they need to help people live well with dementia in their own homes for as long as possible.”

A carer who attended one of our Trust’s previous dementia Q&A sessions, said: "The dementia Q&A session has been really beneficial and has taught me how to be more understanding and patient with the person I care for. I'd recommend future Q&As to anyone looking to understand this commonly misunderstood condition better. I was looking for help from experienced people, and from it I feel I've gained a lot of experience myself.”
