Our Director of Workforce & Organisational Development has been commended for her outstanding contribution to the HR profession over the past 12 months.

Helen Marks was awarded with the coveted Healthcare People Management Association’s (HPMA) HR Director of the Year Award at a national award ceremony in London on 27 June 2013.

The HPMA Awards have been recognising and rewarding outstanding work in healthcare human resource management for over 20 years.

The judges were looking for a shining example to the profession as a HR leader, evidence of initiative, enthusiasm, and dedication in promoting the work of HR in the workplace and putting quality of care at the heart of service delivery.

A significant proportion of the nomination referred to how Helen’s work was focused on patient care and values, both key issues for HR professionals in the post-Francis era. Described as ‘quietly transformational’ with quotes from staff about her ‘can-do attitude’, the panel were particularly impressed by the innovations introduced under Helen’s leadership.

Derbyshire Healthcare were also runners-up for three more HMPA awards including HR Team of the Year, Best Practice and Innovation Using Electronic Staff Records (ESR) and Innovation in HR.
