Developing a comprehensive psychiatric liaison service at Royal Derby Hospital

Royal Derby Hospital
Royal Derby Hospital

In October of last year an engagement event was held where Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust, the Royal Derby Hospital staff and local commissioners met to explore a new way of delivering liaison psychiatry input based on a model developed in Birmingham known as Rapid Assessment Interface and Discharge. The day was very successful and the outcomes helped to influence the Business Case on behalf of the two Trusts, that was submitted for commissioner’s consideration.

The two Trusts are now working together towards an implementation strategy and the future role out of a service. The service is based on a 24/7 availability of a liaison psychiatric service integrated in the acute hospital setting,  providing input on adult mental health issues, managing confusion and delirium and also substance misuse.
