'Summer Reflection' art competition: how to enter

Summer Reflection Art Competition 2017

Are you interested in exploring your creative side and improving your wellbeing? If so, then it's time to get your creative juices flowing!

Sponsored by Hobby Craft, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is inviting entries to its “Summer Reflection” themed art competition from anyone with experience of mental ill-health, whether that’s personal experience of mental health problems, caring for someone with mental health problems, working in mental health services or being a Foundation Trust member of Derbyshire Healthcare.

The competition aims to offer people the opportunity to express themselves and create meaningful artwork to share with others; and to raise awareness of mental health issues whilst helping to reduce stigma associated with mental illness.  

Who can enter?

You can enter if you:

  • Are a service receiver, carer, Foundation Trust member or staff member of Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
  • Are happy for your work to be exhibited, should your work be shortlisted
  • Give permission for you and your work to be photographed for publicity purposes.


What can you enter?

You can enter one piece of artwork which is based on the theme of “Summer Reflection” and depicts happiness and/or hope. Artwork can be completed using any medium, or combination of media, as long as it can be hung onto a wall, e.g. oil or water paint, charcoal, textile, collage or digital art. 

The artwork must:

  • Be between A5 and A3 in size
  • Be the work of the person / group who is entering the competition
  • Be labelled on the back  with the name and contact details of the artist (please include a telephone number)
  • Include a paragraph (up to 200 words) explaining the inspiration behind your artwork and how art has touched your life and how it makes you feel.

How to enter

One piece of artwork can be submitted as an individual or as a group. All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form

You can submit your artwork:

  • Electronically by emailing dhcft.communications@nhs.net – scanned and digital images must be of a high resolution and sent in a .jpg format and not embedded in the email
  • Via post to Freepost RRGK-SRZC-JZAB, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Communications & Involvement Hub, 1st Floor, Centre for Research & Development, Kingsway Hospital, Derby, DE22 3LZ
  • To drop off points:

You must include a stamped self-addressed envelope if you would like your original artwork returning.

Closing date

All entries must be received by 5pm on Monday 10 July 2017. The winner will be announced at Derbyshire Healthcare's Annual Members’ Meeting on Wednesday 26 July 2017.


After the closing date, a panel of judges will shortlist all entries. Individuals of shortlisted artwork will be notified and their artwork displayed at the Annual Members Meeting at Kingsway Hospital in Derby on Wednesday 26 July 2017.

The prize

The winner will receive a Hobby Craft hamper of artist materials, a certificate and their artwork will be featured in an upcoming edition of Derbyshire Healthcare’s membership magazine, Connections. There will also be art supplies prizes for two runners up.

By entering this competition you consent to the Trust using your name, and / or artwork in any publicity material – copyright remains with the artist.
